Frequently Asked ICBC Questions in Surrey
Do I need a doctor's note?
If your accident has been within the last 12 weeks, you are automatically approved for acupuncture (12 visits), massage therapy (12 visits), and clinical counselling (12 visits).
If it has been more than 12 weeks since your accident, you will need a doctor’s note to get you started for treatment.
How much do I need to pay for an ICBC Treatment?
If it has been longer than 3 months since your accident, please provide us with a doctor’s note. Upon receiving your note, we will contact your adjuster on your behalf for approval.
If you’ve been seeing one of our therapists for over 3 months since an injury, and further treatment is deemed necessary, your therapist may write a report requesting additional treatments. This will require approval from your ICBC adjuster.
It's been longer than 3 months since my accident, can I still come in for treatment?
Under ICBC’s Enhanced Accident Benefits, the standard number of approved treatment sessions (within the first 12 weeks after a motor vehicle accident) are:
Massage Therapy: up to 12 sessions
Acupuncture: up to 12 sessions
Clinical Counselling: up to 12 sessions
If more treatment is needed after these sessions or beyond 12 weeks, your clinic can submit a treatment plan extension request to ICBC for additional coverage.
Why does my pain or stiffness feel worse a few days after the crash?
Pain and stiffness often worsen after the initial shock wears off. Injuries like whiplash, soft tissue strain, or alignment shifts may not appear immediately.
In Surrey, our team uses massage therapy, acupuncture, and body realignment to reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and restore movement. Clinical counselling can help manage stress and nervous system sensitivity. Starting treatment early prevents chronic issues.

How long does it typically take to recover from soft-tissue injuries (like whiplash) from a car accident?
Recovery depends on injury severity, age, and treatment type.
With early, ICBC-approved care in Surrey, many patients see improvement within 4–6 weeks. Delayed injuries may take 3–6 months and severe injuries may take up to a year to recover.
Massage therapy, acupuncture, and clinical counselling can help accelerate healing, reduce pain, and improve mobility. We create a customized plan to restore function and prevent long-term complications.
